Schiller in Yiddish?

I walked past

Mel Bochner’s work in front of the Spertus Institute of Judaica. They’re building, and commissioned artists to create a work for their construction barrier. Bochner calls his, “The Joys of Yiddish, The Language Barrier 2006″

And somehow, I started singing the words, to the tune of the last movement of Beethoven’s Ninth..

” KIBBUTZER, KVETCHER, K’NOCKER, KUNI LEMMEL,
NUDNICK, NEBBISH, NU-U-UDZH.

GONIF, DREYKOP, CHAZZER, CHAIM YANKEL,
ALTER KOCKER, MOISHE PUPIK.

MESHUGENER, TUMLER,
TSITSER, SCHMOOZER.

SCHMO, SHLEMIEL, SHLIMAZEL,
SCHVITZER, PISHER.

PLOSHER, PLOSHER, PLATKE – MACHER.
CHAIM YANKEL, ALTER KOCKER.

Now let’s see you get that out of your kup (head) !

And of course, I call it, “Ode to… ‘Oy.'”

-E

I wanted to get the Berlin Phil to play it.
If they won’t do it, how about my cousin Phil?
