Getty gets Wood

LA’s Getty Trust gets a new president and CEOJames Wood. He ran Chicago’s Art Institute from 1980 to 2004.

Wood will try to clean up the place in the wake of the financial and other scandals of the previous president/CEO of the Getty Trust – Barry Munitz.

I think James Wood is the man for the job.

I’m grateful for many fine exhibitions and acquisitions he brought to Chicago, as well as

the extraordinary room by Tadao Ando that James Wood brought to the Art Institute.
A place which my doctor prescribes I visit often, to lower my blood pressure.

And I say that Chicago does not yet realize how

the addition to the Art Institute, designed by Renzo Piano and initiated under James Wood will radically revitalize downtown. The multi-story glass box, facing Millennium Park, glowing with light at night, welcoming us in during the day; filled with modern, contemporary and other art, film, the new design department, and restaurants, this is exciting. I think it’ll be something like

a great big Beyeler Foundation* in downtown Chicago.

But I digress. I came to praise James Wood. Well among other talents and great art connoisseurship, he knows how to pick an architect.

Oops! Too late for

the Getty.

But kudos to them, and to James Wood.
