More Mies restoration

The Social Services Administration Building at the University of Chicago, designed by the office of Mies van der Rohe and opened in 1965, will soon be restored and renovated.

Though not a Mies masterpiece a’ la Crown Hall, the SSA building has served the school well and is certainly worth maintaining.

Leading the work will be Krueck and Sexton, who along with Gunny Harboe did such a great job restoring Crown Hall at the Illinois Institute of Technology, and are now renovating Mies’ 860-880 Lake Shore Drive. (Painting at Lake Shore drive is almost complete. Travertine is being chosen in Italy to redo the plaza.)

Thanks M!
